Myomectomy is a surgical procedure to cut fibroids out of the wall of the uterus. Originally, this operation was performed by making an incision into the abdomen. However, now myomectomy can be performed laparascopically in many cases. Its major indication traditionally has been to improve infertility in women who had uterine fibroids. Over the past ten years; however, it has been utilized more routinely as a treatment for any woman with fibroids rather than removing the entire uterus.
Another method to remove uterine fibroids involves the use of a scope, which is inserted through the vagina through the opening into the cavity of the uterus. This is called operative hysteroscopy . The hysteroscope is used to cut away fibroids that are growing into the cavity of the uterus.
