After the procedure is completed all patients receive anti-inflammatory drugs, typically Motrin™ or one of its relatives. All patients have narcotics (usually Morphine) available through a Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) pump. This medication is self-administered, the patient only gets any if she pushes the demand button. Almost all patients also get an injection of a muscle relaxant, which helps the other medications work better.
Other medications are used for specific patients as they are needed.
