When Uterine Artery Embolization for uterine fibroids was first introduced, many insurance companies refused to cover it, claiming (incorrectly) that it was experimental. Over the last several years there have been increasing numbers of papers in the scientific literature, documenting the safety and efficacy of UAE for fibroids. Most major insurance carriers now cover UAE for fibroid disease (at least in the greater Philadelphia area). In the near future we expect that UAE will be covered as a routine procedure by most, if not all, insurance plans.

When patients come to Image-Guided Surgery Associates for UAE, our specially skilled staff handles all aspects of obtaining the necessary insurance approvals. It is not necessary for the patient to contact her insurance company first, and this may even complicate the process.
